Teams go through several predictable stages of
development. To reach the highest levels of performance, a
team will need to make it all the way through the first four
stages of development. Some teams get stuck in an early stage,
and never achieve their full potential. Adding a new team
member, losing a team member, changing team leaders, or making
a change in the organization usually results in a team regressing
to an earlier stage.
Raising awareness of the different team development stages
