Influencing Skills
In today’s organizations, formal power structures and
hierarchies certainly still exist, and still provide ways
for leaders to accomplish some of their tasks. However, organizations
are becoming more matrix and process oriented to meet market
opportunities and customer demands. Succeeding in these environments
requires the ability to work effectively in teams and to influence
other individuals and teams without necessarily having the
usual position or power structure for leverage. The leader’s
or associates’ interpersonal and relational ability
to influence others is a critical competency in this more
fluid environment..
This module examines how leaders can capitalize on and strengthen
their ability to persuade others and to establish credibility
with their employees and teams.

- Appraise current level of organizational influence
- Examine credibility and role modeling for excellence in
