Team Capability Series -
Emotional Intelligence
The good news about emotional intelligence (EI) is that –
unlike IQ - it can improve throughout the course of a lifetime.
Emotional intelligence can be nurtured, developed and augmented.
It tends to increase as we learn to be more aware of our moods,
to handle distressing emotions better and to listen and empathize.
With the right motivation and the right effort, we can all
cultivate emotional intelligence.
A leader with emotional intelligence is aware of emotions
and able to regulate them – and this awareness and regulation
are both directed inward to one’s self, demonstrating
personal competence, and outward to others, demonstrating
social competence. With the intelligent use of emotions, you
intentionally make your emotions work for you by using them
to help guide your behavior and your thinking in ways that
enhance your results.
This Module examines the theory, application, and enhancement
of EI principles in the workplace.
