Leadership Capability Series -
Effective Decision Making
Effective decision making is one of the most important challenges
that action-oriented, high performance organizations face.
- As market pressures increase and the demands from customers
escalate, it becomes more difficult to focus and act on
the “right” priorities and to not be pulled
in a disabling number of directions.
- In a process oriented environment, in which each player
has a broader and deeper awareness of the whole organization
and its work, decision making can slow down and be less
effective.
Who makes which decision, how, and when can become confusing,
full of conflict, or too cumbersome. There are few strategic
decisions that do not affect more than one stakeholder, and
most need the genuine buy-in and support of multiple parties
if they are to be successfully implemented.
This module provides a range of effective decision making
processes with conceptual and behavioral tools to better generate
decisions with a high degree of buy-in.
Learning Objectives:
- Understand the characteristics of good decisions and effective
decision-making processes.
- Comprehend the nine criteria for rational decision making
- Appreciate the importance of different decision making
approaches and develop the ability to choose the best approach
for each situation.
- Identify when and how to involve others in decision making.
- Gain tools to analyze and improve effectiveness and efficiency
