Business Synergy Development
Privately held billion dollar catering and sports arena company
OVERVIEW
The owner of a billion dollar catering and sports arena company also owns a professional
hockey team.
CHALLENGE
Although the same individual owned the arena, catering business,
and professional sports team, there was a lack of coordination
or synergy between the different enterprises. As professional
sports were becoming an experience-based industry, the owner
recognized the need to address customer and financial limitations
of their business model.
ACTIONS
CWG conducted a comprehensive study of professional hockey
organizations across the United States. We assessed best practices
in marketing strategies, event planning, and customer services.
We then convened a steering committee composed of the three
presidents representing the three different business entities
of the client. This group was chartered and facilitated to
define an approach for coordination across businesses.
RESULTS
The financial and leadership synergies between the three businesses were immediately
tapped. A new focus on the customer and their experience was engendered and for
the first time leadership across the businesses shared planning and execution.
Profits, customer satisfaction and employee motivation all made significant improvements.
